Concerto’s Finallymadeit has grown a reputation as Florida’s Iron Horse for his dominance in South Florida stakes races the last couple of years, and the legend continued on May 25th when the classy 5-year-old captured his 12th local stakes win – and third graded – in the $100,000 Memorial Day Handicap (G3) at Calder Race Course.
Piloted by regular rider Eduardo Nunez, Finallymadeit took his usual position on the lead and ran his rivals off their feet once again, drawing clear in the stretch to win by 1 ¼ lengths. He completed the 1 1/16-miles event in 1:45.55 over a sloppy local main track, good enough to earn him an excellent Beyer Speed Figure of 105. Finallymadeit owns 11 100+ Beyers with a career high of 108.
The Memorial Day triumph moved his earnings to just shy of millionaire status, putting him at $992,645 for owner Rolbea Thoroughbred Racing LLC. Rolbea also bred Finallymadeit along with Rolando Rodriguez from the stakes-winning Gold Alert mare Gold for My Gal.
Not only did Finallymadeit notch a dozen stakes wins, he picked up his 21st on-the-board finish in a stakes event under the care of trainer Javier Negrete, giving him an impressive and not-often-seen overall record of 16 wins, seven seconds and four thirds from 44 starts – all in just 30 months of racing. To say Finallymadeit loves racing could be an understatement. As a stakes horse, he started 19 times as a 3-year-old and followed that campaign up starting 15 times at four. Finallymadeit has already started eight times in 2009 – all in stakes and six of them in graded stakes.
Fellow rival and top older horse in South Florida, Dream Maestro – also by Concerto – finished third in the Memorial Day ‘Cap.
